Digital Desk: The Delhi Police on Thursday confirmed that the man who carried out the car blast near the Red Fort was Dr. Umar Un Nabi, after forensic DNA testing matched his biological sample with that of his mother. Senior officials said the confirmation came following days of detailed forensic analysis.

A senior police officer revealed that after the explosion, Umar’s leg was found trapped between the steering wheel and the accelerator, confirming he was driving the car when it exploded.

DNA samples from Umar’s mother and brother were sent to the AIIMS forensic laboratory, where they were matched with remains preserved at Lok Nayak Hospital. Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Head of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, said DNA profiling is a “gold standard” in forensic science, widely used for identifying suspects, victims, and biological relationships in criminal and disaster investigations.

A total of 21 biological samples were examined at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The explosion killed 12 people including the main suspect, and other samples were taken in the surrounding damaged vehicles like cars and e- Rickshaws.

Officials described Umar’s identification as a major breakthrough in the ongoing Delhi terror probe .The explosion that took place close to the high-security zone of Red Fort caused a lot of panic and brought up serious security fears. Investigators are even narrowing down to the origin of the explosives, potential operators and whether the event was a part of a bigger conspiracy.

The Delhi Police Special Cell and central agencies are jointly investigating the terror angle, with multiple teams deployed across Delhi and neighboring states. The NSG, along with sniffer dogs, examined a red Ford EcoSport (DL10CK0458) recovered from Khandawali village in Faridabad, linked to Dr. Umar. Sources also revealed that before the blast, Umar had stayed at a mosque near Ramlila Maidan. The NIA is likely to visit Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad as part of its expanding investigation into the case’s suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) connection.
