Shillong: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 only aims to stop smuggling of cattle’s outside the country i.e., Bangladesh and not the legal trade, this bill will not affect the other northeastern states.
CM Sarma told the media persons, "The ban is within the geographic territory of Assam only, if the Meghalaya government issued a valid permit for it the Assam government will release the consignment.”
Assuring that the law will not affect the supply and consumption of it in the neighboring states the Assam CM said, “The Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland or Meghalaya will require certification from the concerned authority for clearance.”
Further, CM Sarma stated that the idea behind introducing this bill is only to stop transport of cattle’s outside the country.
Recently, Khasi Jaintia Butchers’ Welfare Association claimed that there is a shortage of cattle supply in Meghalaya after Assam government tabled the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 in the Assembly.
