Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, inaugurated the newly constructed Rukmini Gaon Flyover on Sunday.
Built within an impressive span of just nine months, the four-lane flyover stretches 660 meters and is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion along the Dispur-Six Mile corridor, one of Guwahati’s busiest and most congested routes.
The new flyover and the Supermarket flyover have been officially named after the legendary Kamrup king Bhagadatta.
CM Sarma made the announcement on Saturday, stating that naming these flyovers serves as a tribute to the rich historical legacy of Kamrup and honours the sentiments of the Kalita community.
The Supermarket flyover, although operational for several years, had remained unnamed until now, while the Downtown flyover is a recent addition to the city’s infrastructure.
The decision to name both flyovers after King Bhagadatta holds cultural and historical significance, further emphasizing the state government’s commitment to preserving Assam’s heritage.
