Digital Desk: Assam will get four new medical colleges, and the foundation stone will be laid this month. The state government's goal is to build 24 such colleges by 2026–27, which is when the second tenure of the BJP-led government ends.

If finished in three years as planned, the state will witness the opening of five medical colleges, the most in a year in Assam's history. Recently, the foundation for a medical college hospital was laid in the newly formed Tamulpur district in lower Assam's Bodoland Territorial Region.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation for a 200-bed hospital and medical college in Bongaigaon at an estimated cost of Rs 610 crore while announcing a series of development projects for the lower Assam region. On Thursday, Sarma will lay the foundation for a new medical college hospital in Assam's Morigaon district.
