Digital Desk: The Assam State Election Commission (SEC) has officially released the schedule for the 2025 General Election to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). This announcement follows the Supreme Court of the final electoral rolls for all 40 General Council constituencies on 13th August , 2025.


The SEC is entrusted under the Governor of Assam who will watch over and hold elections under the Bodoland Territorial Council (Election) Rules of 2004. Accordingly, the official notification has been issued for all 40 constituencies. Returning Officers have been advised to issue notices are to be made in a timely manner as the guidelines may permit.


Here are the key dates for the BTC election process:-


·        Last date for filing nominations: September 2, 2025

·        Scrutiny and publication of valid nominations: September 4, 2025

·        Withdrawal of candidature: September 6, 2025

·        Polling day: September 22, 2025

·        Provision for re-polling (if needed): September 24, 2025

·        Counting of votes: September 26, 2025 (from 8:00 a.m.)

·        Completion of election process: By September 28, 2025

·        Polling hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.


The 40 constituencies are broadly open constituencies, ST constituencies, non-ST constituencies with Parbatjhora, Fakiragram, Koklabari, Salbari, Mushalpur, Goibari, Goreswar, Rowta, and others, among the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).


With the official notification now in place, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect throughout the BTR. . this marks the official beginning of a two-phase election process which is a significant milestone of democracy in the region. Political parties, candidates and offices are now bound to follow the stipulations of elections religiously and exercise decorum in the duration of campaigning.
