Digital Desk: On 2nd May, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration on Saturday created history by setting a new Guinness World Record for unfurling the world’s largest national flag underwater at Radhanagar Beach.

The massive Indian tricolour, measuring approximately 60 by 40 metres, was deployed beneath the sea in a complex and tightly coordinated operation at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island). The effort involved multiple agencies and trained divers working in unison to execute the intricate underwater unfurling.

Lieutenant Governor D K Joshi, Chief Secretary Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Director General of Police H S Dhaliwal, along with other senior officials, were present to witness the historic moment.

Personnel from the Andaman and Nicobar Police, Forest Department, Indian Navy, and Indian Coast Guard, along with scuba divers from various diving centres, collaborated in carrying out the operation.

More than 200 divers participated in the record attempt, including three school students, Fateh Jahaan Singh (16), Lavanya Eira (15), and Ranvijay Singh (14), who were among the youngest contributors to the achievement.

At 10:35 am, Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath officially confirmed the record and presented the certificate to Lt Governor Joshi.

Praising the efforts of all involved, Joshi described the achievement as a testament to exceptional coordination and commitment, adding that it marks a significant milestone in the islands’ record of unique accomplishments.

Officials stated that the feat further highlights the growing prominence of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a hub for adventure tourism, marine activities, and globally recognised events.

Fateh Jahaan Singh, a Class 12 student of The Shri Ram School in Gurugram, expressed his excitement, saying he felt proud to be part of the event and was deeply moved by the beauty of the marine world. Lavanya and Ranvijay, students of Rishi Valley School in Bengaluru and Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in New Delhi, respectively, also described the experience as emotional and thrilling.

The administration is set to attempt another Guinness World Record on3rd May, —the ‘Tallest Human Stack’—at the Lighthouse dive site on Swaraj Dweep, with senior officials, including the Lieutenant Governor, expected to attend.

As per reports , around 200 divers, including expert swimmers from various government agencies such as the Forest Department and marine police, as well as private participants, took part in the successful attempt, which was carried out at around 10 am.
