Dibrugarh Police achieved a significant breakthrough in their fight against narcotics, apprehending nine individuals and seizing a considerable amount of suspected heroin, cash, and other valuables. The operation, conducted near the Dibrugarh Town Railway Station, marks a critical escalation in the district’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
The targeted raid on Sunday was the culmination of a week-long intelligence gathering effort across Dibrugarh. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nayan Moni Baruah disclosed that information gleaned from various anti-drug operations conducted over the past seven days pointed towards the Railway Colony in the Koyla Patti area as a primary source of illicit drugs. This intelligence led to the decisive surprise raid.
During the operation, law enforcement personnel arrested nine suspects and conducted searches at several premises. From the residence of one individual, identified as Sujata Biswas, police recovered approximately 79 grams of suspected heroin, a substantial sum of Rs 4,92,000 in cash, and various gold ornaments. Officials indicated that the identities of all arrested persons are currently undergoing verification as investigations continue.
This latest success underscores the Dibrugarh Police's unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the region, signaling a sustained and intensified approach to dismantle drug networks operating within the district.
