  • An elephant was found dead near Assam-Meghalaya border
  • Clear burn marks were noticed on the middle section of the elephant's trunk
  • Authorities suspect electrocution as several electric wires scattered around the area

Digital Desk: An elephant carcass was recovered near the Assam-Meghalaya border, approximately 200 meters from Tikrikilla police station in Belguri village, Meghalaya.

A herd of elephants, which had been residing in the reserved forest area under Lakhipur Forest Division in Goalpara, ventured into the paddy fields of Belguri village late at night.

Tragically, one elephant from the herd was found dead in the paddy field.

Upon receiving the information, Lakhipur forest officials rushed to the spot and observed several electric wires scattered around the area.

Clear burn marks were noticed on the middle section of the elephant's trunk, indicating electrocution.

Authorities suspect that miscreants had illegally set up electrical connections in the paddy field, which led to the elephant's death.

Both forest officials and local residents believe the incident was caused by such an unlawful activity.

Surprisingly, despite being informed, the Meghalaya Forest Department has yet to arrive at the scene to conduct an investigation into the matter.
