Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has reported the first case of the Zika virus on Thursday. A 24-year-old pregnant woman has been diagnosed with the mosquito-transmitted infection, State Health Minister Veena George stated on Thursday.

There are thirteen other presumed cases of the infection from Thiruvananthapuram, the minister informed PTI, continuing the government was awaiting approval from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune.

Out of the 19 units advanced from Thiruvananthapuram, 13 health operators, including experts, are assumed to be positive for Zika, the minister stated.

The status of the lady was satisfying. Though she does not have any travel account outside the state, her house is on the Tamil Nadu frontier.

A week since, her mother had similarly displayed comparable traits, a government statement added.

The indications of Zika are comparable to dengue, including fever, skin blemishes, and joint discomfort.
