The ongoing issues over the rules and regulations on the social media platforms put a question of the platforms being a boon or a bane. Social media platforms have been the voice for the voiceless, but this can also create havoc on the minds of the people.
Following up the Delhi controversy riot, the Supreme Court has given a verdict on the social media platforms of being accountable. Facebook, Twitter are examples of social networking sites and this medium started in the form to generalize online communities to bring together people having the same interests and sharing the same ideas.
Social networking sites can play the role of boon or a bane depending upon the usage of these platforms. It depends upon the people whether to improve themselves or degrades themselves. The ongoing exempting of rules and regulations to the social platforms has been raising concerns to the people.
Facebook has a reach of 2.85 billion monthly active users worldwide, of which India accounts for 270 million. The Supreme Court feels that Facebook has been a powerful entity of influence on people and holding vast power makes it take responsibility.
Disclosing too much information can be harmful and risky business. Social media platforms have been working great as it brings out people together to voice out their opinions and share their ideas. But, there should some guidelines to stop hate speech.
However, the decision of social media coming under the new rules and regulations is still under debate. But, as a user, it is important to be a responsible user as the social media platform is to spread the appropriate content to reach every nook and corner of the world.
