Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took over as CEO of BAI in 2017, has been instrumental in raising significant funds for the game's development

Digital Desk: At the General Body Meeting held in Guwahati on Friday, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was re-elected unopposed as President of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for another four-year term from 2022 to 2026. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took over as CEO of BAI in 2017, has been instrumental in raising significant funds for the game's development over the last four years. He is also the Vice President of Badminton Asia and a member of the Executive Council of the Badminton World Federation. Also Read: Six Barrels of Countrymade bombs discovered in Birbhum village Sanjay Mishra, a former junior national coach, would be the new General Secretary, with incumbent Ajay Kumar Singhania becoming Vice President in the new Executive Council. Arun Lakhani, President of the Maharashtra Badminton Association, will be the new treasurer. "Badminton has been on the rise in India for the last two decades, and we are committed to continuing that rise by providing better facilities to players and a strong governance system," Sarma said after his re-election. Pullela Gopichand, the Chief National Coach, would also join the BAI administration after being elected as Vice President alongside Anbumani Ramadoss and ten others. In addition to the newly elected Executive Council, there will be 12 Vice Presidents, eight Joint Secretaries, and an equal number of committee members.
