Digital Desk: India is strengthening its air defence capabilities with the Union Defence Ministry's approval of 97 Tejas Light Combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Additionally, the procurement of 156 Prachand Combat helicopters, including 90 for the Army and 66 for the IAF, has been given the green light. Both the Tejas and Prachand are domestically produced, highlighting India's commitment to self-reliance in defence.

Valued at Rs 1.1 lakh crore, these acquisitions signify a noteworthy investment in strengthening the country's military capabilities. The Defence Acquisition Council's clearance of the Indian Air Force's Su-30 fighter aircraft upgrade program further underscores India's dedication to modernizing its existing fleet.

The Tejas Mark-1A, a key component of this initiative, boasts indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured features, with over 65% of its components being of domestic origin. This move not only enhances India's defence capabilities but also promotes the growth of its indigenous defence industry. As geopolitical dynamics evolve, these strategic acquisitions position India to effectively respond to emerging challenges, ensuring a robust national defence.
