Digital Desk: The IndiGo Airlines is facing one of its most severe operational disruptions in recent years, with more than 200 flights cancelled and hundreds of others delayed across major airports in the country. The crisis has caused widespread travel chaos and left thousands of passengers stranded nationwide.

Today, at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, massive confusion and unrest broke out as the airline cancelled all scheduled flights from the city to Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Aizawl, Agartala, Imphal, Dibrugarh, Bengaluru, Silchar, Dimapur, and Chennai.

Passengers who had been waiting since morning expressed deep frustration  about being left without any assistance and no other travel option, no hotel accommodation, nor clear message or notification regarding the cancellations of their booked Indigo flights.

With indications that the disruptions may continue for the next two days, tension continues to escalate among the stranded travellers. Many aggrieved passengers voiced their grievances in front of the media at the airport, strongly criticising the airline’s handling of the situation.

The nationwide disruption has created long queues at airport terminals, overwhelmed customer service counters, and raised serious questions about how the airline’s schedule collapsed so suddenly. Aviation authorities believe that the chaos appears to have been triggered by combination of -

·        Indigo crew shortages

·        Recent implemented duty-time regulations

·        Technical issues at key airports and

·        Heavy congestion during the peak winter travel season

Passengers across the country continue to report severe inconvenience as IndiGo and airport authorities work to stabilise operations and restore normal flight schedules.
