Digital Desk: Today, a SpiceJet aircraft collided with a plane of Akasa Air at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, resulting in damage to both aircraft.The incident occurred on the ground while the SpiceJet Boeing 737-700 was taxiing. As per initial reports, the right winglet of the SpiceJet aircraft struck the left horizontal stabiliser of the Akasa Air plane, causing visible damage to both.
Following the collision, the SpiceJet aircraft has been grounded at the airport for further inspection and assessment. No immediate reports of injuries have been confirmed.
The Indian aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation took note of the incident and initiated further investigation into the matter.
In a statement issued soon after the aviation incident, it said, "On 16 April, the winglet of the Spicejet B-737-700 aircraft, VT-SLB, taxying in the allocated parking bay after operating flight SG-124 (Leh-Delhi) at Terminal 1, hit the horizontal tail surface (HTS) of the Akasa B-737 aircraft positioned on the apron after push back for operating flight on sector (Delhi-Hyderabad)."
"Due to the impact, the RH winglet of the Spicejet aircraft and the THS of the Akasa aircraft were damaged. DGCA is carrying out further investigation," it added.
