Digital Desk: Students having 75% in four-year undergraduate degrees can now directly appear for the National Eligibility Test (NET) and pursue PhDs, according to University Grants Commission (UGC) chairperson Jagadesh Kumar on Sunday, April 21.
With this modification, students who are interested in pursuing further education should find the procedure simpler.
"Students with four-year undergraduate degrees can now directly pursue PhD and appear for NET. Such candidates are allowed to appear in a subject in which they want to pursue a PhD irrespective of the discipline in which they have obtained the four-year bachelor's degree," Jagadesh Kumar told news agency PTI.
"The students having passed a four-year or eight-semester bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75% in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed," he stated.
Earlier, to sit for the NET exam, a student needed a master's degree with at least 55% of the possible points.
This year, the examination will be administered offline, with exams scheduled for June 16 for every topic.
