Digital Desk: Twitter CEO Elon Musk stated on Thursday that the microblogging platform has begun "purging" a large number of spam and scam accounts, so users may notice a "count drop" in their followers.
He tweeted, "Twitter is purging a lot of spam/scam accounts right now, so you may see your follower count drop."
Several users shared their reactions to Musk's actions.
One user stated, "Dude, that`s like all my followers." "Exactly.. but it's good to lose followers who were never really followers.. lol," said another.
Prior to the takeover of Twitter, Musk stated in April this year that he would "defeat" the "spam bots" on microblogging or "die trying."
"If our Twitter bid succeeds, we will defeat the spam bots or die trying!," he tweeted.
Later, on May 29, 2022, Musk raised the issue of fake/spam accounts or "bots" on Twitter, claiming that the microblogging platform has "extremely bot-friendly" rules.
At the time, Twitter claimed that less than 5% of accounts on its services were false.
