Digital Desk: A violent clash erupted last night in Rongbong, Numaligarh, between two rival factions of sand traders, leaving one individual critically injured and currently undergoing treatment.
The conflict stems from ongoing disputes over sand mining rights, which have heightened tensions in the area.
One faction claims to operate legally, citing possession of valid documentation for sand excavation.
In contrast, the opposing group accuses them of lacking legitimate paperwork, further fueling the conflict.
The situation escalated when a group of 20-25 individuals from one faction attacked the office of Sonit Saikia, who asserts he holds valid documentation.
The attackers vandalised the premises and assaulted an employee, Ramjan Ali.
Following the incident, Saikia rushed the injured employee to the hospital and lodged a formal complaint at the Numaligarh Village Police Station.
Meanwhile, the opposing faction has leveled serious allegations against Sonit Saikia and his son, Raja Saikia, accusing them of running an illegal sand mining operation.
They claim the duo manipulates the forest department and collects Rs 1,200 per truck or dumper of sand without proper authorization.
The truth behind these allegations remains uncertain and will only be determined through a comprehensive police investigation.
