Digital Desk: Eighty four days after singer Zubeen Garg's mysterious death in Singapore, the Assam Police's CID Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted its much-anticipated charge sheet to the Chief Justice Magistrate (CJM) court on December 12.
Key highlights from the charge sheet include:
The charge sheet details the arrest of seven individuals on four primary grounds: oral testimonies, digital evidence, medical reports, and financial data.
Statements from 397 individuals were recorded, providing critical insights into how the accused exploited Zubeen Garg.
The SIT gathered substantial digital evidence, including mobile phone and laptop data, CCTV footage, and WhatsApp messages.
Comprehensive medical records were analysed, including Zubeen Garg's health history, reports from Nemcare Hospital, Guwahati and Mumbai-based healthcare facilities. Post-mortem reports from both Assam and Singapore, along with the viscera report, were also included.
The charge sheet scrutinizes Zubeen Garg's personal production accounts, royalty details, event-related remuneration agreements, and studio records.
The SIT used this extensive data as the foundation for their investigation into the singer's death, ultimately filing the charge sheet against the seven accused.
One of the most significant revelations in the charge sheet was the financial mismanagement by Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg's manager.
Siddharth had signed contracts for Bihu events on Zubeen Garg's behalf, with each event earning around 10-12 lakh rupees.
However, the singer reportedly received only around 7 lakh rupees per event, with Siddharth allegedly embezzling the remaining amount.
Additionally, Siddharth charged a 15% commission on the amount he handed over to Zubeen Garg, further compounding the financial discrepancies.
