Digital Desk: The accused in Zubeen Garg's mysterious death case have not yet received legal representation and this has become a major topic of discussion recently.

The situation arises from the decision of Assam lawyers to withhold legal assistance from anyone implicated in the case.

Concerns have emerged that the accused might claim in court that they lack legal representation.

However, senior lawyer Rintu Goswami clarified that neither Shyamkanu Mahanta nor the other accused can assert this in court.

He explained that if a defendant does not have a private lawyer, the legal services authority is obliged to appoint one once the judicial process begins.

In a noteworthy development, Shyamkanu Mahanta's wife, Anita Deka Mahanta, has formally requested the Guwahati Lawyer's Association to reconsider its decision and provide legal aid to the accused.

This appeal has raised public apprehension that Shyamkanu Mahanta could potentially avoid accountability by leveraging the claim of being without legal counsel.
