Digital Desk: In a major drug bust, a team of the Guwahati Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested four passengers carrying a substantial quantity of suspected heroin. It was carried out at about 7.15 am, during a routine checking of Train No. 22504 DN Kanniyakumari Vivek Superfast Express in Guwahati Railway Station.

The four arrested people are identified as  Sultana Begum (42 ), Fajila Begum (44 ), Hasina Khatun (24 ) and Md. Ajibur Ali (23 ) hailing in Marigaon and Nagaon districts of Assam. From their possession, the GRP retrieved 27 packets that contained suspected heroin (brown sugar) packed in weighing a total of 304 grams.

According to officials, they were at Jagiroad Railway Station and were to travel to Kerala by train. All four were travelling together and are thought to be members of a bigger drug trafficking network.

The seized contrabands and the accused have been handed over to the relevant authority to face further prosecution. Efforts are also being made to  trace the source and the destination point of the drugs

The quick response by the GRP has once highlighted us that the passenger trains have increasingly been used by the drug traffickers to transport illegal drugs across the border.
