In a heartening display of resilience and community spirit, Pankaj Agarwal, a local businessman from Sivasagar, has undertaken the distribution of school uniforms to flood-affected children across the district. His initiative comes even as Agarwal himself faced substantial losses, with his cloth shop in Sivasagar town remaining under water for an extended period of 19 days following the recent deluge.
Ignoring his personal setbacks, Agarwal chose to focus on the plight of students whose families were severely impacted by the floods. Accompanied by his twelve-year-old son, Shivam Agarwal, he visited several flood-hit areas, including Lakhiminagar, Bhadhara, Chengelibari, Nimaijan, and Solegaon, to provide essential school uniforms. This gesture aims to help children resume their education with a renewed sense of dignity and confidence.
Agarwal emphasized the importance of supporting the younger generation during such challenging times. “While business losses are a part of life, the loss of hope for our future is irreparable. Children are our future, and many have lost everything, even their clothes. It is our collective responsibility to bring a smile back to their faces,” he stated, reflecting on the broader impact of the disaster.
This act of altruism is consistent with Agarwal's long-standing commitment to social service. Reports indicate he has been actively involved in plantation drives in and around Sivasagar town since 2012, demonstrating a continuous dedication to community welfare.
