Garima Saikia Garg took to social media to confirm that a special letter had been submitted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister on behalf of the family
Digital Desk: The Assam government has decided to appoint special public prosecutors in connection with the Zubeen Garg death case, underscoring its intent to ensure a fair and thorough legal process. In addition to government-appointed prosecutors, five experienced and senior criminal lawyers will be engaged to handle the high-profile case.
According to official sources, a shortlist of seven to eight senior advocates has already been prepared. From this list, the state cabinet is expected to select five lawyers during its meeting scheduled for 9th January. Prominent names reportedly included in the shortlist are senior advocates Ziaul Qamar and Pallab Kataki.
The move follows a formal request from Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, who has sought the appointment of additional legal representation to strengthen the prosecution. On 6th January, Garima Saikia Garg took to social media to confirm that a special letter had been submitted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister on behalf of the family, urging swift and effective legal action in the pursuit of justice.
The state government’s decision to involve multiple senior criminal lawyers reflects the seriousness attached to the case and aims to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the judicial proceedings. Further developments are expected following the cabinet’s decision later this week.
