Digital Desk: The Office of the Inspector of Schools (IS), Kamrup Metropolitan District Circle, Panbazar, has issued show-cause notices to the heads of 39 schools in Guwahati for remaining absent from an official departmental meeting held on 1st January , 2026. The notice is issued on 6th January.
According to official sources, the meeting was organised by the Inspector of Schools at the conference hall of Ulubari Higher Secondary School to discuss academic planning and teaching strategies for the new academic year. Heads of all 118 schools under the Kamrup Metropolitan district were directed to attend the meeting.
The department stated that prior intimation regarding the meeting was communicated to all heads of institutions on 31st December , 2025, through WhatsApp text messages, voice messages, and phone calls. Despite repeated notifications, 39 headmasters and principals reportedly failed to attend the meeting without seeking prior permission or providing any explanation.
In the show-cause notice, the Inspector of Schools noted that the absence of the concerned heads caused inconvenience to the department and adversely affected official duties and the overall functioning of the education office. The notice further stated that remaining absent without permission amounts to serious misconduct and a breach of trust under government service rules.
The department has charged the concerned heads with negligence of duty and responsibility, alleging mala fide intent as government servants under Rule 9 of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964. The notice also mentioned that such conduct raises questions regarding their integrity and adherence to official responsibilities.
The school heads have been directed to submit a written explanation to the Inspector of Schools within two days from the date of issuance of the notice, failing which further disciplinary action may be initiated as per rules.
Education department officials said strict compliance with administrative directives is essential to ensure smooth academic planning and effective governance of schools in the district.
