The victim approached the United States Embassy
Digital Desk: A U.S. national woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at a homestay in Kutta village of Kodagu district in Karnataka, prompting swift police action and arrests. As per police sources, the gruesome incident took place last week during the woman’s stay at the property, where she had checked in for three days. Following the alleged assault, the victim approached the United States Embassy, which then alerted local police. Police subsequently initiated an investigation.
Karnataka police confirmed that the homestay owner and a staff member have been arrested in connection with the case. The owner has also been charged with withholding assistance and attempting to cover up the crime.
R N Bindu Mani, Superintendent of Police, Kodagu, stated that a case has been registered at Kutta Police Station. The accused have been produced before a local court, which has remanded them to judicial custody.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru, while the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident has also sparked political reactions. C. T. Ravi, BJP leader and Karnataka MLC, strongly condemned the assault, describing it as “deeply shameful and unacceptable,” and said such acts go against India’s cultural ethos of Atithi Devo Bhava (the guest is God).
