Digital Desk: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday urged ULFA (I) chief Paresh Baruah to join the peace process for the benefit of Assam's development.
Speaking at a meeting where the state government provided one-time monetary assistance to former cadres of various militant organizations, CM Sarma said, "I wish that one bright day like today, we would be moving on with the Ulfa peace process. I once again appeal to Paresh Baruah that we can rebuild Assam and greater Assamese society via discussion and not through violence."
"We can fix all our difficulties through talks," Sarma added.
Further, CM Sarma added that with the return of peace, the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been abolished in 65% of the state's geographical area, and the state government is considering withdrawing the act from the Karbi Anglong district and Lakhipur sub-division in Cachar district.
