"There are about 300 Assam police officers and jawans who are habitual drinkers, and excessive alcohol consumption has damaged their bodies," CM Sarma stated.

Digital Desk: Although several warnings were issued to police officers who performed their duties while under the influence of alcohol, the Assam government has decided to offer voluntary retirement to officers and jawans of the police who are habitual drinkers because the warnings were ineffective. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on Sunday.

Around 300 officers and jawans will be offered retirement under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) because they performed their duties while under the influence of alcohol, which was ineffective in terms of citizen security.

They will receive their pensions under the VRS programme, and there will be opportunities for aspirants to apply in the police department since various positions would become available following retirement, according to the CM.

"There are about 300 Assam police officers and jawans who are habitual drinkers, and excessive alcohol consumption has damaged their bodies," CM Sarma stated. The state government will implement the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS)."

"According to government policy, they will go to VRS and new recruitment will take place." We had not before done it in Assam. "We will now get to work on this," he added.
