The officer from the 2011 batch is accused of soliciting and accepting bribes while issuing arms licences and land allotments during his tenure as the district's collector for Surendranagar.

Digital Desk: IAS officer K Rajesh, an IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, was detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday in connection with an alleged case of corruption. The officer from the 2011 batch is accused of soliciting and accepting bribes while issuing arms licences and land allotments during his tenure as the district's collector for Surendranagar.

According to a CBI official, "We have arrested IAS officer K Rajesh in the corruption case after he failed to cooperate with the investigation." Previously, in May, the CBI arrested a trader from Surat who is accused of acting as a middleman for Rajesh. The Gujarat government complained to the central government, according to the FIR, and the central government launched an investigation against the IAS officer. On the basis of which an FIR was filed, the CBI was requested to conduct an initial investigation.

The case was filed against the then-collector (an IAS officer from the 2011 batch) of Surendranagar and others on the grounds that they demanded and received bribes in connection with the issuance of arms licenses, the allocation of government land, and the regularisation of encroached government land in the names of ineligible beneficiaries. A preliminary investigation into the incident was already opened at the Gujarat government's request. The present case is the result of the PE, according to a statement from the CBI.
