Arvind Kejriwal announced that a special isolation ward had been established at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) for those suffering from monkeypox.

Digital Desk: On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the establishment of a separate isolation ward at at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) for patients suffering from monkeypox.

A 34-year-old man from the nation's capital who had never traveled outside of the country tested positive for monkeypox.

It is the fourth reported case of the disease in India.

Kejriwal urged people not to panic, saying the patient is stable and recovering.

"The patient is stable and on the mend. There is no need to be alarmed. The situation has been stabilized. At LNJP, we have created a separate isolation ward. Our best team is on the ground to stop the spread and protect Delhi residents, "He tweeted about it.

The World Health Organization declared monkeypox a global public health emergency of international concern on Saturday.

The monkeypox virus spreads from infected animals to humans through indirect or direct contact. Direct contact with infectious skin or lesions, including face-to-face, skin-to-skin, and respiratory droplets, can result in human-to-human transmission.

Over 16,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported from 75 countries worldwide, with five deaths as a result of the outbreak.

Aside from India, one case has been detected in Thailand's WHO South-East Asia Region.
