The renovated stretch is considered the city's most popular public space...

Digital Desk: The Centre announced on Monday that the historic Rajpath and Central Vista lawns in New Delhi would be renamed as 'Kartavya Path.' This comes after the government announced last Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the renovated Central Vista Avenue, which runs from the Vijay Chowk to the India Gate, on September 8.

The renovated stretch considered the city's most popular public space includes red granite walkways spanning 1.1 lakh square meters with greenery all around, more than 133 light posts-old along the Rajpath, 4,087 trees, 114 new signages, and stepped gardens.

This is the first project finished as part of the Modi government's ambitious Central Vista redevelopment plan.

"The work is over. The prime minister is likely to inaugurate the revamped avenue on Thursday," an official said.

An official document stated that there are around 900 light poles, including those in the gardens and along the Rajpath between the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the India Gate, in an effort to make Central Vista more pedestrian-friendly around the clock.

In total, eight amenity buildings and four pedestrian underpasses have been constructed along the stretch of 422 red granite benches.

New red granite walkways covering 1,10,457 square meters have been built along the Rajpath, replacing the bajri sand that previously lined the ground.

As many as 987 concrete bollards have been installed on the Rajpath.  A total of 1,490 modern-looking manholes have replaced the older ones.

The Central Vista reconstruction project includes a new triangular Parliament building, a common central secretariat, a revamped three-kilometer Rajpath, a new prime minister's mansion and office, and a new vice-president's enclave.
