Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the Bapco Energies refinery in the Sitra industrial area of Bahrain, one of the country’s most critical oil processing facilities
Digital Desk: Today, a major fire broke out at Bahrain’s main oil refinery after a reported drone strike targeted the facility amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the Bapco Energies refinery in the Sitra industrial area of Bahrain, one of the country’s most critical oil processing facilities. Authorities confirmed that damage and injuries were reported following what has been described as an Iranian drone attack.
Witnesses reported seeing heavy smoke surrounding the refinery complex in the Sitra district, which hosts several key energy facilities including oil processing units and storage infrastructure. Following the strike, Bapco Energies declared force majeure and halted operations at the refinery.
Emergency sirens were sounded across nearby areas, with authorities urging residents to move to safer locations as emergency teams responded to the incident.
The attack comes amid escalating regional tensions after the United States and Israel previously targeted oil facilities in Iran, raising fears of a widening “energy war” across the Gulf.
Reports suggest the renewed strikes are linked to the increasingly aggressive stance of Iran’s leadership under Mojtaba Khamenei following the killing of Ali Khamenei.
The refinery, one of the largest in Bahrain, is a crucial part of the country’s energy infrastructure, and the strike has intensified concerns over the security of oil facilities across the Gulf region.
