Digital Desk: A report from a close source confirms of Manipur administration designating retired IPS officer and former CRPF chief Kuldiep Singh as its security advisor on Thursday, in response to the state's increasing violence between tribals and the majority Meitei group. They stated that Kuldiep Singh had arrived in Imphal.

The officer from the 1986 batch retired from the Indian Police Service in September of last year. In addition, he served as director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Clashes erupted in the state on Wednesday and grew worse overnight, with rival communities launching counter-attacks in retaliation for earlier attacks after Naga and Kuki tribals staged a 'Tribal Solidarity March' to protest moves to grant scheduled tribe status to the majority Metei community.

The state government issued a 'shoot at sight' order on Thursday in "extreme cases" to quell the state's growing violence between tribals and the majority Meitei group, which has uprooted over 9,000 people from their communities.
