Digital Desk: Today in the wee hours, a significant counter-insurgency raid, four cadres of the non-Suspension of Operations (non-SOO) group, the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), were killed in a fierce gun battle with the security forces in the Churachandpur district of the Manipur state.
The gunfight took place at Khanpi village under Henglep Sub-Division, approximately 80 kilometers west of Churachandpur town. According to defence sources, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of armed insurgents in the area.
When the army reached the suspected area, UKNA militants fired on the column of Indian Army without provocation, which provoked a full-scale gun battle. During the follow-up, four militants were eliminated. The site was also found to have a number of weapons and other warlike stores.
Social media footage showed an Army helicopter being used to evacuate the bodies from the remote operation zone. The search operation in the adjoining areas is still underway to ensure complete area domination and prevent any possible regrouping of insurgents.
According to defence officials, the operation was carried out following recent acts of violent activities by UKNA cadres such as killing of a village chief, threatening the residents in the area and trying to disrupt peace in the area.
The successful neutralisation of the insurgents underscores the Indian Army and Assam Rifles’ continued commitment to maintaining peace, protecting civilians, and restoring stability in violence-affected parts of Manipur.
