Digital Desk: In Guwahati as per major steps that are being taken by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), an eviction drive across various parts of the city, targeting illegal commercial establishments that have encroached public spaces including footpaths and places under flyovers.
The operation was carried out late at night and centred on some of the major locations such as Jalukbari and Ganeshguri. A special force of GMC was assigned to clear unauthorized vendors and roadside businesses that have been functioning illegally for a long time.
This project is part of the beautification drive in the city that is taking place before the forthcoming Independence Day on 15th August . municipal body is aiming to improve the image and show a cleaner, better, cleaner and better-organized city before the national celebration.

Additionally, there has been unregulated presence of these stalls, that has led to major traffic congestion, causing inconvenience to commuters and posing a challenge to urban mobility.
Against this backdrop, the GMC has also vowed to carry on with eviction exercise phase by phase with the first phase commencing since 1st August . The current operation is an indication of the administration desire to take back the area that belongs to the people and get civic order and a cleaner and more efficient urban environment with respect to the people in the area and visitors.
