Digital Desk: Two individuals were arrested on Monday night in connection with a road rage incident that occurred on the Maharaja Prithu Flyover on July 2.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abhilash Dutta and Merin Talukdar.

The incident unfolded when the accused, along with a third individual, allegedly intercepted and physically assaulted Arghadeep Roy, a young man from Silchar.

The assault was reportedly triggered after Roy's vehicle overtook theirs.

Following a formal complaint by the victim, Latasil Police summoned the accused on July 6 and subsequently placed them under arrest.

During the investigation, police examined dashcam footage from both vehicles involved- AS 01 GU 7733 (driven by Arghadeep Roy) and AS 01 GU 0026 (driven by Abhilash Dutta).

The footage contradicted the claims made by the accused, as the police found no evidence of dangerous or improper driving by Roy.

A case (No. 45/26) has been registered against the duo under Sections 126(2), 118(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated a zero-tolerance policy regarding road rage and physical assault. Furthermore, he clarified that Abhilash Dutta has no association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), despite his alleged claims of being a close associate of a BJP MLA from South Kamrup.

Both vehicles of the accused and victim have been seized by the authorities.
