After a hiatus of nearly three years, public transport services connecting Imphal, Manipur, with Guwahati, Assam, have officially resumed. This marks a significant stride towards restoring vital inter-state connectivity and enhancing normalcy in the region. The first services on the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route commenced on Friday, August 21, much to the relief of commuters and regional stakeholders.
State government officials confirmed that a total of 125 passengers embarked on the inaugural journey. This initial fleet comprised two full-sized buses and five Winger vehicles, all departing from Imphal. These vehicles successfully traversed through the districts of Kangpokpi and Senapati in Manipur before proceeding into Nagaland, eventually heading towards their final destination in Assam.
The re-establishment of this crucial transport link has been widely welcomed by the public, with many expressing optimism that improved connectivity will foster greater peace and reconciliation within the state. One passenger from Thoubal district lauded the state government's initiative, describing the resumption of services as a 'fresh beginning' and voicing hopes for 'love, peace and harmony among all communities' to prevail.
This development is seen as a pivotal step in reconnecting Manipur with its neighboring states and facilitating easier travel for residents who have faced considerable challenges over the past years. It underscores ongoing efforts to stabilize the region and enhance essential infrastructure.
