Digital Desk: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt with a score of 11 when India faced the West Indies in the third match of the five-match T20I series on Tuesday. The veteran opener reportedly injured a muscle near his waist while leading Team India's attack with the willow in the 3rd T20I against Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies at Warner Park in Basseterre.

During India's run chase in Basseterre, Rohit blazed a six and a four off Alzarri Joseph. After putting the Windies bowler through the wringer in the second over, Rohit appeared to be in some difficulty. After speaking with Team India's physio Kamlesh Jain for a short while, Rohit was spotted dragging his back out of the stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided an update on Indian captain Rohit after the third T20I between the two former world champions ended with Rohit being declared injured and retired.

Suryakumar Yadav, India's replacement opener, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant laid the foundation for the successful run chase when Rohit left the team early in the innings. India's top scorer was Suryakumar, who hit 76 off 44 balls to lead India to a 7-wicket victory over the West Indies. Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed during the post-match ceremony that he will recover from the back spasm before the fourth Twenty20 International.

"Right now, everything is OK. The next game is in a few days; hopefully, everything will go well (his injury). It was important how we bowled in the middle overs. I believe we made good use of the situation. The variations were effectively used. We proceeded in a very methodical manner. There seemed to be a lot of calmness in the middle when you looked on from the outside, not a lot of risk being taken. Surya batted beautifully, and he and Iyer formed a solid relationship. The pitch offered the bowlers something in the form of a challenging target. On a surface like that, picking the appropriate shots and balls was crucial," Rohit said.
