Digital Desk: Meghalaya has reached a landmark milestone in its sporting history by signing the amended Host State Agreement for the 39th National Games, scheduled for 2027.
The formal agreement solidifies the state's role as the host of India's premier multi-sport event and underscores its rising status as a major sports hub.
The signing ceremony was graced by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr. P T Usha.
A key highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the Rs 132.9-crore Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Hall in Shillong, a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a primary venue for the Games.
Highlighting the state's rapid transformation, the Chief Minister noted that nearly 80% of Meghalaya's sports infrastructure has been developed over the past eight years.
Through significant investment, robust athlete development programmes, and the construction of world-class facilities, Meghalaya is positioning itself to deliver a historic National Games and cement a lasting sporting legacy.
