The incident occurred at a seven-story Jagruti Society building in Mulund West.

An official was quoted as saying, "A total of 80 persons were rescued by BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) from the staircase to the terrace and a few were brought down to the ground floor. Of these, 10 persons were found at the staircase in an unconscious state and were removed and sent to Agrawal Hospital."

He added that the fire was confined to electrical wiring, electrical installations, electrical main lines, all metres, all switches, etc. in a common electric metre cabin on the ground floor and a higher seven-storey residential structure.

A record-breaking fire trapped some people in the lobby and filled the entire stairway with smoke.

According to an official, the ten people were taken to a local hospital and are now in stable condition.

In Mumbai, a major fire that sparked inside a 20-story residential structure resulted in at least 7 deaths and 15 injuries last year.
