Digital Desk: On December 24, the Union Sports Ministry suspended the newly elected body of the Wrestling Federation of India.
The decision follows the announcement by newly elected president Sanjay Singh of U-15 and U-20 nationals to be held in Nandini Nagar, Gonda (UP) before the end of the year.
Sanjay Singh, a close aide to deposed former WFI chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was elected as the Wrestling Federation of India's new president on Thursday.
In an official statement, the Sports Ministry declared that the announcement of national tournaments was premature and lacked an appropriate process.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections were held on December 21, following several postponements earlier in the year. Sanjay Singh's panel won the election with a 33-vote margin over the opposing panel.
Singh, a former member of the WFI's executive council, has been the national federation's joint secretary since 2019.
Furthermore, the WFI elections, which were originally scheduled for August 12, were postponed when the Punjab and Haryana High Court extended the stay till September 25 at an August hearing on a case. The federation, which is in charge of overseeing wrestling throughout the country, had scheduled to hold elections in June of this year.
