Digital Desk: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his much-anticipated roadshow in Gangtok on as part of his two-day visit to Sikkim, which is celebrating the closing ceremony of its 50th year of statehood.
The Prime Minister arrived earlier in the day at the Libing Army Helipad, where he was received by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Governor Om Prakash Mathur. Soon after his arrival, he launched a grand roadshow from Biralu Dwar to MG Marg, accompanied by state ministers, including Dilli Ram Thapa.
Thousands of people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister, waving and cheering as his convoy passed through the city. Residents from different walks of life turned out in large numbers, reflecting the significance of the occasion as Sikkim celebrates five decades of statehood.
During his visit, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate development projects worth over Rs4,000 crore, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and tourism. He will also attend the main Golden Jubilee event at Paljor Stadium, which includes the “1000 Steps of Unity” cultural programme marking the historic milestone.
On the second day of his visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park, also known as the Orchidarium, highlighting Sikkim’s rich ecological heritage.
The visit, scheduled from April 27 to 28, is being viewed as both politically and symbolically significant, underscoring the Centre’s focus on the development and cultural identity of the Himalayan state.
