Tinsukia: The Supreme Court gave its judgment on the Baghjan issue, suggesting six new committees with four members each on Monday to study the issue and give their reports on the same.

Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Shah benched the hearing.

The report said the bench has already sent written notice to the Ministry of Environment, proposing a list of six committees with four members in each committee.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal appealed to the Apex Court, demanding its hearing on the Baghjan issue.

Moreover, an Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) meeting of the Ministry, held in February 2017, reveals that OIL has requested that it be granted permission to use the earlier public hearings.

Now, the green activists and experts show concern over the matter in which OIL manages to get approval from the Ministry of environment.

The Supreme Court has scheduled its next hearing on August 26.
