Digital Desk: Amid heavy snowfall in Sikkim, a total of 1217 tourists were evacuated from the forward area of East Sikkim to an Army Transit Facility.

The Indian Army's rescue and relief effort, which started on December 13, continued till the wee hours of December 14, 2023. The stranded tourists were provided food, shelter, medical treatment, and comfort.

Although there was sleet on the roads, complicating the rescue operation, the Indian Army, working with the civil authorities, made sure that all visitors were evacuated back to Gangtok on December 14.

The soldiers worked tirelessly during the night and early morning to make this rescue a success.

The tourists expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army for their assistance and for making sure their families were safe during a time of need.

As per reports, all tourists have been successfully moved out to Gangtok in a safe and healthy condition.
