Digital Desk: Amid the continued uproar by the Opposition in the ongoing Parliamentary Monsoon Session, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the Manipur violence matter on Tuesday (August 1) at 2 PM. According to the information received, the court asked that the Center and the Manipur government provide details of the FIRs filed on the matter.

Speaking on the matter, CJI DY Chandrachud stated that this is not an incident like Nirbhaya, which was one rape committed - which was also horrible but it was isolated. "We are dealing with systemic violence here, which the IPC recognizes as a separate offense. So, in order to reestablish trust in the administration, a court-assigned team will send a message that the highest appointed court is deeply concerned—it will send officers with no political allegiance," he added.

SC enquires about relief package being provided by Centre

Further, the Supreme Court questioned the Centre what package the government of India is offering to Manipur for rebuilding homes. The counsel appearing for the Meitei community contended that there is not only one viral video but there are many such videos in which people were executed in public view.

CJI Chandrachud told the Meitei community's counsel that he had not only read the case files but had also seen the video that had just gone viral. "That video sparked national outrage, which is why we took note of the case," the CJI said.
