Guwahati: Majority of the Hindu celebrations are not marked on a fixed time because they depend on the lunar calendar and tithi – lunar day. However, the majority of times Vishwakarma puja falls on September 17 every year. It is because this festival follows the transit of the sun, i.e., solar calendars.
Significance
Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated to signify the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma, the architect. According to Rig Veda, Lord Vishwakarma is recognized as the architect of the world with knowledge of the science of mechanics and architecture.
History reveals that he constructed the sacred city of Dwarka, where Lord Krishna ruled, and also the Maya Sabha of the Pandavas. Lord Vishwakarma is likewise recognized as the producer of many majestic weapons for the Gods.
Every year on this day, factory and store owners organize puja to seek blessing for superiority in their work. All the electronic gadgets are worshipped on this day.
Vishwakarma Puja is marked on the closing day of the Bengali month Bhadra, also known as Bhadra Sankranti or Kanya Sankranti. This year, Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on September 17, and the Vishwakarma Puja Sankranti muhurat started at 01:29 am.
How to celebrate the puja?
People usually celebrate this day by taking a bath and offering Puja to Lord Vishwakarma. Traditionally, a flower is held in the right hand. Then an Akshat (sacred water) is taken, and hymns are recited. Following, the holy water is scattered all over the place, and the flower is left behind in the water.
As a part of the tradition, people also knot a Raksha Sutra or the holy thread on their right waist and seek blessing from Lord Vishwakarma. After the completion of puja, individuals offer water and flowers to the machines. The puja gets completed with Yajna (a ritual sacrifice with a specific objective).
