On July 31, Bengal Police formally detained the suspended Congress leaders, who were thereafter held in state CID custody for ten days.

Digital Desk: The three Jharkhand MLAs who were allegedly found in possession of almost Rs. 50 lakhs in Howrah, West Bengal, reportedly visited Himanta Biswa Sarma on their trip to Guwahati, according to CID sources.

The three Jharkhand MLAs (Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari), who were suspended by the Congress, reportedly met Sarma in Guwahati and were paid Rs 50 lakhs by a local businessman in Kolkata, according to CID sources. Their reported encounter with the Assam CM's specifics were unknown.

Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari, three Jharkhand MLAs, were detained by the West Bengal Police on July 30 when they were travelling in a car with around Rs 50 lakh in cash.

On July 31, Bengal Police formally detained the suspended Congress leaders, who were thereafter held in state CID custody for ten days.

The three MLAs were allegedly involved in a scheme to undermine the Congress Legislature Party in Jharkhand as well as "misleading" other lawmakers, according to Avinash Pande, the Congress general secretary and Jharkhand in-charge, who spoke at a press conference after their detention.

According to him, the coalition MLAs will resist such attempts in unison, "barring a few black sheep," and the JMM-led government is entirely "safe and stable."

Pande said that the Hemant Soren-led administration in Jharkhand is entirely "safe and stable" while accusing the BJP of trying to overthrow it.

The Congress leader claimed that there have been attempts to topple the administration in Jharkhand for the past two years, and that occasionally, legislators are approached, threatened, or offered incentives.

It's interesting to note that Pande also claimed the chief minister was contacting Jharkhand MLAs to try to overthrow the government.

He claimed that Union ministers were threatening MLAs and that the chief minister of a state was taking part in the campaign. But Pande didn't ask for anyone's name.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee plans to reorganise the cabinet and bring in 4-5 new members.
