Guwahati: The Assam government will use the Bhaskarabda (lunisolar calendar) calendar as a part of the official calendar in the state, announced Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Reportedly, the decision was taken in a meeting held by the officials of the General Administration chaired by the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Currently, the Assam government uses the Saka calendar and the Gregorian calendar. The Saka calendar uses a lunisolar time tracking system, instead of the sidereal signs used in the Hindu calendar; the months in this calendar follow the tropical Zodiac signs. The Gregorian calendar is a solar dating system widely used around the world.

On the contrary Bhaskarabda calendar is counted from the date of the ascension of Kumar Bhaskar Barman to the throne of Kamrup and differs from the Gregorian calendar by 593 years.
Sharing about the development CM Sarma tweeted, “In a meeting held with officials of General Admin Dept (GAD), we have decided that in addition to Saka & Gregorian, now Bhaskarabda will also be used in official calendar by GoA. Also decided to have calendar based on themes (eg. flora & fauna, culture & cuisine etc) every year.”
Additionally, the Assam government has also decided to have theme-based calendars every year. The calendars will include themes of flora and fauna, culture and cuisine
