The incident has added a new dimension to the already intense rivalry between the two franchises
Digital Desk: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has lodged a formal complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, accusing the stadium DJ of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) of mocking and undermining their players.
The controversy stems from the IPL 2026 clash held on 5th April at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a viral track featuring the lyrics “Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney, Chutney” was played during the match. CSK has alleged that the use of such music, along with commentary, crossed professional boundaries and was intended to ridicule their players.
The incident has added a new dimension to the already intense rivalry between the two franchises. CSK stated that while a stadium DJ is expected to energize and engage the home crowd, the role should not extend to insulting or undermining the opposing team.
How Did It Enter CSK–RCB Rivalry?
A video of RCB wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma singing the song was shared by the franchise last year on social media. He was responding to a question about what comes to mind when he thinks of Chennai, but faced backlash on social media for the way he sang it.
Later that year, during a CSK–RCB clash at Chepauk, the song was played following Jitesh’s dismissal.
The matter is now with the BCCI, which is expected to review the complaint.
