Social media post from the I&PR department, says, the summer vacation for students will begin on...

Digital Desk: Due to the extreme heat, the Odisha government declared on Thursday that the summer holiday would be postponed this year. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered that all schools (public, private, and aided) up to Class XII stay closed beginning Friday, April 21.

According to a social media post from the I&PR department, the summer vacation for students from Class I to Class XII will begin on April 21 at the directive of the chief minister. The departments involved will decide on a reopening date in due course. A formal notification will be published shortly.

The state's summer vacation was set to begin the first week of May.

The state administration had previously decided that schools and Anganwadi facilities would be closed from April 12 to 16. After resuming courses on April 17 and 18, all schools and Anganwadi centres were closed again on April 19 and 20 owing to extreme heat.

Odisha has been experiencing strong heatwave conditions for the past two weeks, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in 30 areas.

On Wednesday, the temperature in Baripada reached 44.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Nuapada (44.4 degrees), Balangir (44.4 degrees), Angul (43.7 degrees), Jharsuguda (43.6 degrees), Titlagarh (43.1 degrees), and Bhubaneswar (42.5 degrees).

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow heatwave warnings for the whole state until Friday. People can expect some relief from the blazing heat after that, as temperatures may decrease slightly due to thunderstorm activity.
