Preliminary assessments suggest the drones were equipped with high-explosive payloads, clearly designed to cause mass casualties

Digital Desk: In a major security development, Pakistani forces dispatched several Byker YIHA III kamikaze drones across the International Border into Amritsar, Punjab in the wee hours today at around 05:00 am. The drones, presumably targeting heavily populated civilian areas across the border, were another incendiary step up in cross-border wars.

Fortunately, the swift and integrated reaction of the Indian Army’s Air Defence (AAD) network foiled the attack. The moment the drones crossed Indian airspace, once again the layered air defence grid containing ground-based radar systems, electro-optical sensors and automated command and control platforms, detected and traced their movements.

Quick-reaction air-defence guns —worked from positions strategically established along the border—intercepted and destroyed the drones in mid-air, thus ensuring no damage or death. The officials confirmed that there was no debris that reached the civilian areas, which gave the picture of precision and efficiency of the response.

Initial evaluations point to the drones being fitted with high-explosive warheads unsuitably directed towards mass casualties. Pakistan is seeing the failed strike as a dangerous escalation aimed at civilian infrastructure.

This incident underscores the rising trend of its drone warfare in the area, as well as its defence preparedness against asymmetric aerial threats, which is unparalleled. The drone source and payload are still under investigation.
