  • Three individuals have tragically succumbed to Japanese Encephalitis in Rangia, Assam, prompting local health authorities to issue a high alert and intensify public health measures across the area

Three lives have tragically been lost in Rangia, Assam, due to confirmed cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE), prompting health authorities to issue a high alert and activate rapid response protocols across the region. The fatalities highlight the persistent threat posed by the mosquito-borne viral disease in the state and underscore the immediate need for robust public health interventions.

Following the confirmation of these deaths, local health officials in Rangia have initiated a comprehensive action plan aimed at containing the spread. This includes deploying specialized medical teams for active case finding and surveillance in affected localities, ensuring the availability of diagnostic kits and treatment facilities, and launching extensive public awareness campaigns. These campaigns are designed to educate residents on personal protection measures, early symptom recognition, and the importance of seeking timely medical attention.

Further preventive efforts involve intensified mosquito control operations, such as widespread fogging and larval source management, targeting breeding grounds in residential areas and public spaces. Japanese Encephalitis is endemic to many parts of Assam, with the risk typically peaking during and after the monsoon season when mosquito populations proliferate. The disease, transmitted primarily by Culex mosquitoes, can lead to severe neurological complications, making vaccination and community-level sanitation crucial for prevention.

State health department officials have urged residents of Rangia and neighbouring areas to remain vigilant and adopt all recommended precautions. These include using mosquito nets, applying repellents, wearing full-sleeved clothing, and eliminating stagnant water sources around homes. Authorities assure continuous monitoring of the situation and are working closely with local communities to mitigate risks and prevent further casualties.
